Youth sentenced 10 years RI for raping minor girl

Pune : A 23-year-old youth was on Monday sentenced 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2014.

Special judge A N Sirsikar also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000on the convict Arjun Bhima Jadhav, a resident of Sanjay Park, Lohegaon.

On November 1, 2014, he had taken the seven year old girl to his house under pretext of giving biscuits and then raped her. He had also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident. However, she informed her mother and grandmother following which an FIR was registered against him with Vimantal police station. ACP Sham Mohite of Khadki division had investigated the case sections of the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe (Prevention of Atrocity) Act was also invoked. However, the convict has been acquitted of atrocity charges as well as criminal intimidation.

Senior police inspector Dilip Shinde, in-charge of the police station, said that seven witnesses were examined by public prosecutor Arundhati Raskar to prove the guilt of the accused person. Assistant sub inspector S N Bhongale, head constable constable Jalinder Bhor and woman constable Suvrna Jagtap co-ordinated with the witnesses and complainant.
