Young Student Dies By Suicide at Fergusson College Hostel in Pune
Pune, 28th July 2023: A young student died by suicide in the hostel at Pune’s renowned Fergusson College. The student, identified as Om Kapdane (19), was a third-year B.Sc. student who had come to Pune from Nashik for his studies.
Om resided in the Vishnu Kunj Hostel located on the college premises. On Thursday (July 27), he took the drastic step in his hostel room, leaving everyone in disbelief. Upon discovery, he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police said that no suicide note was found in his room. The police have launched an investigation to uncover any possible clues or factors that may have led to this unfortunate event.

This incident echoes another sad suicide that occurred just four months ago in Pune. A 21-year-old female student pursuing medical studies at B.J. Government Medical College had also taken her life by jumping off the hospital terrace. She had been grappling with academic pressure and emotional distress, and her parents had sought psychological assistance for her.
