Weather Alert: Pune to See Moderate to Intense Rain Spells, Visibility Issues

Pune, 31st July 2024: Anupam Kashyapi, the former head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, has issued a weather update predicting significant rainfall for the city. “Today, Pune City weather will be mainly overcast with moderate to intense spells of rain. Overall, we expect moderate rainfall ranging from 25.5 to 64.4 mm in the next 24 hours,” said Kashyapi.

He also warned of potential hazards, including poor visibility, slippery roads, and water stagnation in low-lying areas. “These conditions are likely to create problems for commuters and residents. Additionally, rainfall is expected to increase tomorrow, which may lead authorities to consider closing schools and colleges. A decision on this matter could be made this afternoon,” Kashyapi added.

With dams and rivers nearly full and the soil already saturated, the impact of the rainfall could be severe. “The rain this time will have more impact, potentially creating more problems,” he noted.

In the ghat areas of Pune and Satara, moderate to heavy rain is expected, with isolated areas experiencing very heavy rainfall. “From tomorrow, the rain is likely to increase in the ghats as well. It is advisable to avoid visiting these areas in the coming days,” Kashyapi advised.
