Water Scarcity Sparks Urgent Action: Pune Divisional Commissioner Calls for Second Meeting On Monday

Pune, 13th January 2024: In response to the persistent water scarcity issues affecting Pune District, a second crucial meeting has been scheduled by the special committee formed under the directions of the Bombay High Court.

The committee, comprising the Divisional Commissioner, Municipal Commissioners of PMC and PCMC, Chief Engineers of the Water Supply departments of PMC and PCMC, and the Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, will convene on January 15, 2024, at 12:00 noon.

The meeting, slated to take place at Zumbar Hall, Divisional Commissioner’s office located at Council hall, Bund Garden Road, Camp, Pune, aims to address the escalating water crisis.

Advocate Satya Muley, who provided information about the meeting, urged the active participation of co-operative housing societies, apartment complexes, housing federations, and residents in presenting their concerns related to drinking and domestic water scarcity.

“As part of our Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed at the Bombay High Court and the subsequent directives, this committee has been established to delve into the water scarcity issue plaguing Pune District. The upcoming meeting is of utmost importance, and we encourage representatives from all housing complexes in PMC and PCMC to attend and voice their water supply-related challenges,” emphasized Advocate Muley.

Residents are urged to bring along their water tanker bills and any data pertinent to their water requirements. The committee seeks comprehensive information to formulate effective strategies in addressing the critical water shortage affecting the region.
