Mumbai, 28th June 2024: Leader of the Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar raised critical concerns during today’s monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He asserted that Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar should resign due to delayed actions following the arrest of the accused in the Kalyani Nagar Porsche case.

Wadettiwar highlighted the existence of 450 rooftop hotels in Pune, each paying Rs. 5 lakh in installments to the administration in the Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar areas. He also pointed out that 27 pubs in these areas are operating without proper licenses, questioning the Police Commissioner’s awareness of these violations. He emphasized that the operation of these unlicensed pubs indicated negligence on the part of the police.

In response, Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured the assembly that the opposition leader’s concerns would be investigated and appropriate action would be taken.

Wadettiwar also addressed the recent Pune car accident case, expressing concern over the city’s growing reputation as a hub for drug trafficking despite its status as an educational center. He questioned how the vehicle involved in the accident had no number plate and whether the police overlooked this due to the driver’s affluent status.

Furthermore, Wadettiwar alleged political motives in attempts to shield the accused, citing instances such as the granting of bail and actions against police officers. He called for investigations into these matters, emphasizing the loss of two innocent lives and irregularities in the handling of evidence. Wadettiwar also demanded inquiries into drug distribution from Sassoon General Hospital and the sale of non-TP alcohol in Pune.
