Vadodara, 15th March 2025: A 20-year-old law student allegedly driving at high speed crashed his car into multiple two-wheelers, killing a woman on the spot and severely injuring four others in Vadodara’s Karelibaug area during the early hours of Friday.

The tragic accident occurred around 12:30 am near Muktanand Crossroads. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Panna Momaya, the accused, identified as Rakshit Chaurasiya, was immediately apprehended. “Eyewitnesses reported that Chaurasiya appeared intoxicated. He was heard shouting ‘another round, another round’ after stepping out of the car,” Momaya said, indicating the possibility of drunk driving.

The deceased, identified as Hemali Patel, was riding a scooter when the accident took place. The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Chaurasiya, originally from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is pursuing law and resides in Vadodara as a paying guest. The vehicle he was driving belonged to his friend Mit Chauhan, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident. “Chaurasiya was behind the wheel when he lost control of the car and crashed into multiple two-wheelers at full speed,” Momaya added.

Authorities are now trying to locate Chauhan, who fled the scene after the crash. A video recorded by an eyewitness captured him stepping out of the heavily damaged car and blaming Chaurasiya for the accident.

The police have launched an investigation and are examining whether Chaurasiya was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
