Gorakhpur, January 5 2021: Rail travel has become expensive during the Coronavirus pandemic. Passengers traveling in general coaches also have to splash out in the name of specials. Fares have increased from Gorakhpur to Lucknow, Manduadih, and Chhapra Intercity from Monday. While passengers have to pay thirty rupees more on a general ticket for traveling from Gorakhpur to Lucknow, on the other hand, they have to pay fifteen rupees extra on a general ticket for traveling to Varanasi.

Trains are running in the name of the specials. Only reserved coaches are being used, and travel is allowed on the confirmed ticket only. Moreover, tickets for intercity trains are also booked at the price of reservation tickets. Passengers have to pay 15 to 30 rupees more than the standard fare at railway counters. Agents are charging Rs 40 to 50 extra on the prescribed fare for booking tickets through the Internet.

According to experts, the railway board has made the road easier for the local people by running the Intercity but has not compromised on the fare. This has also impacted the sale of reserved tickets. On the first day, 30 to 40 percent of seats of Intercity were left vacant. On Tuesday, 148 AC seats in Gorakhpur-Lucknow Intercity and 1034 seats in TOS (General) were vacant. In Gorakhpur-Manduadih Intercity, 164 seats were vacant in the AC Chair car and 1136 seats in Tuas. Lack of information and the increased rent creating havoc in the lives of people.

Gorakhpur-Mailani Special Express will run from tomorrow
After getting the Railway Board’s approval, the Northeast Railway Administration has also announced to run the Gorakhpur-Mailani Express from January 6 to 31. The train will have reserved coaches, and travel will be allowed on confirmed tickets only. Tickets for general coaches will also have to be booked.
