The Plays:
1. Charandas Chor:
Urban Chaupaal brings to Pune the classic “Charandas Chor,” a masterpiece penned by the iconic Indian theatre personality, Mr. Habib Tanveer ji. In 2024, the legendary Habib Tanveer ji would have completed 101 years, and in 2023, Urban Chaupaal paid tribute to him by presenting his timeless creation, “Charandas Chor.” The play’s theme and characters ingeniously unravel the paradoxes and contradictions of society, challenging the collective conscience of human nature in a humorous yet thought-provoking manner. The character of Charandas, the so-called hero or anti-hero, remains open for interpretation, urging the audience to reflect. The play also features live music with original songs composed by the talented team.
2. UDHEDBUN:
Urban Chaupaal’s second offering, “UDHEDBUN,” is an original play inspired by the works of Indian playwrights. This heartwarming and comical exploration delves into themes of love, relationships, and cultural clashes. The storyline revolves around a vivacious and determined young woman deeply in love with a charming man from a different cultural background.
