UPSC 2nd topper Athar Aamir motivates civil services aspirants

Pune, June 12:  Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan who has stood 2nd in the UPSC examination 2016 was in Pune on Sunday in an event organized by Sarhad, an NGO working from Kashmiri children.

He inspired a large number of aspirants who came there to hear him at Patrakar Bhavan in Navi Peth and curious to know his experiences. In his interaction with audiences his compassion and respect to human dignity and their perspective was crystal clear along with his humours and dignified qualities, self-confidence and ambition were also clearly shown in his speech.

According to Khan, besides blaming government and its work we should be an initiator to change the society in right way.

He quoted “India ranks 3rd in the world in terms of per capita product consumption; but, at the same time there are still 22 % of population in our country who don’t have assured source of income and many of them are deprived of their daily food. We have youngest demography in the world but less than 5% youngsters are skilled for their work today which shows a negative part of it. We cherish diversity but at the same time we have issues on gender equality. Time is now when we youngster have to decide our role for the betterment of our country’s future because our present contribution will decide future of our country for coming 100 years”.

According to Athar, “there is no shortcuts for success only hard work can achieve it for you” and also it would help youth survive when they choose passion over money.

“Expose yourself to the circumstances and do not be dogmatic”, he suggests.

Now that he is being chosen for an IAS post he wants to change the mentality of people about not reachable administration and want to make it people friendly instead. He wants to play the role of a catalyst between common people and government and suggest the same to his counterparts.

“Being young today calls for being part of huge transformation that this county is going through. So being an IAS officer comes with role and responsibilities that can actually change people’s lives”, he added.

He said he was among those children who never dreamt of being in civil service but during his B tech course, at IIT in Himachal Pradesh, he came across the gaping schism between valley and rest of the country which bound him to choose this field of work over juicy offers given by private sectors after his graduation.

Sarhad founder Sanjay Nahar summarized the inspirational story of this 23 years old wonder boy and said, “Athar has proven the fact that focus and ambition can achieve you every success over all fatalities. More and more such Athar should be produced from Maharashtra as well so it is important to form inter-state study groups that would help the aspirants from the states and make them more focus”.
