Union Health Minister Assures Help For Setting-up Of PMC’s Medical College

Pune, January 28, 2021: Union Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan assured help for setting up a new medical college in Pune. Dr Harshvardhan recently had a meeting with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) mayor Murlidhar Mohol and state opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis.

The PMC’s Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee medical college will soon become a reality. The proposal for the medical college has reached the National Medical Commission.

Fadnavis, Mohol met the health minister. Standing Committee head Hemant Rasane, group leader Ganesh Bidkar and PMC commissioner Vikram Kumar were present during the meet. During the meeting the health minister was apprised about the technical permissions received for the medical college.

The proposed Medical College at Pune will have 100 seats and shall be built and managed by Pune Municipal Corporation with 350 beds hospital initially to be increased to 500 beds modern tertiary care in a phased manner, one urban health training centre and three affiliated primary health centres.

In Maharashtra state Municipal Corporations of Mumbai and Thane have established medical colleges many years ago and these institutes are the backbone of the public health care system in those cities.
