New Delhi, 23 July 2024: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha today, outlining a roadmap aimed at achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 while adhering to the 5.1% fiscal deficit target for FY25. Among the significant sectors addressed in this budget, tourism has received a notable emphasis, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing India’s appeal as a global tourist destination.

Key Announcements for Tourism:

1. Vishnupad Temple Corridor & Mahabodhi Temple Corridor:
– These iconic spiritual destinations are set to be transformed into world-class pilgrim and tourist spots. The government’s investment in upgrading the infrastructure and facilities around these areas is expected to significantly boost religious tourism, attracting more visitors from both domestic and international fronts.

2. Comprehensive Development of Rajgir:
– Rajgir, with its rich historical and cultural significance, will undergo comprehensive development. This initiative aims to improve the town’s infrastructure, making it more accessible and attractive to tourists. Enhanced amenities and better connectivity are key components of this development plan.

3. Nalanda’s Revival:
– Nalanda, an ancient seat of learning, is slated to be developed as a major tourist center. The revival of Nalanda University to its historical grandeur is a highlight of this plan. This move not only aims to restore its educational legacy but also to position it as a pivotal cultural and tourist hub.
