Two Arrested for Assaulting Female Traffic Officer in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pimpri, 19th June 2024: An incident involving two individuals assaulting a female Assistant Police Sub Inspector has come to light in Pimpri Chinchwad. The officer was managing traffic at a busy intersection when the incident occurred. She had stopped a person for not having a license, after which they assaulted her and fled. The incident took place at Shagun Chowk in Pimpri at 7:15 PM on Sunday (16th).

Assistant PSI Ashwini Sapkal reported the incident to the Pimpri Police Station. Police have arrested Swapnil Dhammapal Gae (22 years old, resident of Pimpri Gaon) and Umakant Mahadu Bhagwan Waghmare (20 years old, resident of Thergaon). A case has been registered against both individuals under IPC Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

According to police reports, Assistant PSI Ashwini Sapkal is currently assigned to the Pimpri Traffic Branch. On Sunday evening, she was handling traffic at Shagun Chowk, Pimpri Camp, when she stopped a two-wheeler and took action against the driver for driving without a license. The accused driver behaved rudely and threatened Assistant PSI Sapkal. The accused’s accomplice, Waghmare, struck Sapkal in the ear, and both fled the scene. Police Sub Inspector Deshmukh is further investigating the matter.
