Pune, 27th June 2024 – Japanese automaker Toyota, known for its reliable and robust vehicles, has announced a recall of over 1.45 lakh units worldwide. This recall affects two SUV models, the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX, due to a defect in the side curtain airbags. The issue, which could prevent the airbags from deploying in certain accidents, has prompted Toyota to take immediate action to ensure customer safety.

Toyota Issues Recall
Toyota has issued a recall for more than 1.45 lakh units of its Grand Highlander and Lexus TX SUVs. These models, launched in the American market last year, have been found to have a defect in the side curtain airbags. The defect has raised concerns about the airbags failing to deploy during accidents, especially if the driver’s window is open.

Nature of the Defect
Reports have indicated that the side curtain airbags in both the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX may not deploy in specific crash scenarios. This defect was identified after several incidents where the driver-side airbag failed to activate, potentially compromising the safety of the vehicle occupants.

Resolution Expected Soon
Toyota has assured customers that they are working diligently to resolve the issue. A spokesperson for the company stated, “Our team is currently addressing this problem, and we expect to notify vehicle owners by mid-August. Affected owners can then bring their vehicles to authorized service centers for repairs at no additional cost.”

Launched Last Year
The Grand Highlander and Lexus TX were introduced to the American market just last year and are manufactured at Toyota’s Princeton factory in Indiana. Both models are positioned in the large crossover SUV segment and feature three rows of seats, catering to families and individuals seeking spacious and versatile vehicles.

Toyota’s proactive approach in issuing this recall underscores its commitment to safety and customer satisfaction. By addressing the airbag defect promptly, the company aims to maintain its reputation for producing dependable and secure vehicles. Vehicle owners are encouraged to stay informed and take advantage of the free repairs once the recall process begins.
