Pimpri Chinchwad, 24th June 2024: Parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad recorded 114 mm of rain as heavy rainfall lashed the area yesterday afternoon. The day had been cloudy since morning, culminating in a downpour accompanied by thunderstorms in the afternoon. Pimpri-Chinchwad received 114 mm of rainfall within just one hour.

Between 3:30 and 4:30 pm yesterday, heavy rains affected several areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad, including Pimpri, Chinchwad, Akurdi, Chikhali, and Moshi, resembling a cloudburst. Water entered many houses in the slum areas, marking the first cloudburst-like rain event of the year.

The intense rainfall caused flooding in many places, with some roads submerged under knee-deep water. It is speculated that the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had not adequately cleaned the city’s drains, leading to water entering homes in some areas. Water accumulation was also observed in front of the PCMC building itself.
