Pune, 19th June 2024: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is enhancing road connectivity across India, and Bihar is a significant beneficiary of this development. Three new expressways are under construction in Bihar, set to connect over 20 districts. These major infrastructure projects aim to boost connectivity, economic growth, and real estate values in the state.

The network of highways and expressways in Bihar is expanding, with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways driving the efforts. The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway, and Haldia-Raxaul Expressway are the key projects currently underway. These expressways are expected to bring significant benefits to Bihar by connecting numerous districts and enhancing overall infrastructure.

The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will run from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri in West Bengal, significantly benefiting Bihar. The expressway will pass through more than 10 districts in Bihar, including Gopalganj, West Champaran, Motihari, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Forbesganj, Araria, and Kishanganj. Out of the total 519 kilometers, 416 kilometers will run through Bihar. This project is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹32,000 crore and is expected to be completed by 2025.

The Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway is another major project, running from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Kolkata in West Bengal. A section of this 610-kilometer expressway will pass through Bihar, connecting the districts of Kaimur, Aurangabad, Rohtas, and Gaya. The project is estimated to cost ₹35,000 crore and is expected to be completed by 2026 or 2027.

The Haldia-Raxaul Expressway will significantly enhance Bihar’s road network. This 650-kilometer expressway will connect nine districts in Bihar, including Banka, Jamui, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Patna, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Motihari, and West Champaran.

The construction of these expressways is also expected to benefit the real estate sector in Bihar. Even before these expressways become operational, land values are already increasing. These projects will play a pivotal role in transforming Bihar’s infrastructure, providing better connectivity and economic opportunities for over 20 districts in the state.
