Kondhwa, 8th June 2024: This afternoon, four girls drowned in a stagnant water pit on Katraj Kondhwa Road. Upon receiving information, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) fire brigade promptly rushed to the scene and successfully rescued three of the girls. Unfortunately, one of the girls, identified as Muskan Shilawat (16 years old), lost her life as she was submerged deep in the water.

The other rescued girls have been identified as Sargam Shilawat (15 years old), Sejal Shilawat (13 years old), and Janu Shilawat (15 years old). The incident took place near the ISKCON temple, where construction work for an underpass is ongoing. Stagnant water in a pit near the work area, commonly used by nearby slum residents, led to this accident. The four girls, all from the nearby slums, were washing clothes when the incident occurred.

Residents alerted the PMC fire brigade and Kondhwa Fire Station officers, who swiftly responded. While three girls were rescued, Muskan became trapped in the deep mud of the pit, losing consciousness. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was declared dead upon arrival by the doctors. Kondhwa Police arrived at the scene, and the other girls are currently undergoing medical treatment.
