Textile Designer Binita Sen launches her label ‘Binita Sen Weaves’ in Pune
Binita Sen Weaves – where traditional craft and modern aesthetic meet, was launched amidst much fanfare on 13thJanuary 2018, at a two day exhibition held at Sanskriti, Koregaon Park, Pune. The inauguration took place at the hands of Vishal Chordia, Chairman, Govt of Maharashtra, Maharashtra State Khadi & Village Industries.
During this exhibition, a collection of Sarees, Stoles and Dupattas were unveiled, and were available in different types of fabrics like Uppada Silk, Bishnupur Soft Silk, Linen Silk, Ghicha Tussar, Kanchi Cotton. Not only that, there was something exquisite for the Men too – Silk Ties and Pocket Squares. Seeing the beautiful collection on display, Chordia was very impressed amd told Sen that they can collaborate with artisans from Maharashtra and work with them.
“The products are exclusively handcrafted, of premium quality and emphasize the MADE IN INDIA philosophy, reflecting the diversity and traditions of India”, smiles Binita Sen, Founder, Binita Sen Weaves, who loved experimenting with the fabrics and colors right from her childhood.
To date her journey for that old found love continues, and now, it is has taken the shape of her company‘Binita Sen Weaves’, that stands on two main pillars – Design and Quality. She works iintricately with hamlets of weavers pan India, enabling and empowering them to create premium quality textiles with contemporary sensibilities while retaining and nurturing age-old artisan traditions.
“We try to create a fusion of traditional methods of weaving, natural fabrics and playful colors/patterns that reflect the modern aesthetic of today’s consumer. We pride ourselves in the way we keep a regular track of where the trends are heading, what our customers expect and offer quality to meet the same. In fact, some of our collections are classic and stand-alone from the styles that come and go. Our fabrics are designed to fit your way of life, keeping in mind current trends, and yet make you feel relaxed, comfortable and confident”, she adds.
While the stoles and dupattas are priced at Rs.2000 and above, the sarees are available from Rs.4000 to Rs.11,000. The ties and pocket squares cost between Rs.500 to Rs.1000.
A distinct human touch goes into each of their pieces. All have an element of individual craft, manual skill and handiwork. She specializes working in Kosa/Tussar Handwoven Raw Silk, Muga, Kanchipuram Silks and Cotton creating intricate weaves, textures, and prints using vegetable dyes, vat dyeing, wooden blocks and traditional embroidery.
“Our collection is meant to give people a strong, beautiful way to wear their identities, and connecting you to the spirit of India”, sums up Sen.
