Talking On Mobile Phones While Driving And Jumping Signals Among Major Traffic Violations In Pune

Pune 9th Sept 2023: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and traffic police department have joined hands to penalise the traffic rules violators in the city and stringent action such as suspension of driving licence for three months is also being taken under the special initiative. The RTO officials in a recently released data have shared that a total of 698 driving licenses have been suspended for violating various traffic rules between January and June 2023.

The data reveals that a large number of riders were found talking on mobile phones while driving and many others were caught after jumping the signal. According to RTO, a total of 224 driving licenses were suspended after the drivers were caught talking on mobile phones while driving. Similarly, 205 licenses were cancelled for jumping traffic signals. The action to suspend the license is being taken considering the past records of the violator and recommendation from the traffic police department.

A significant number of violators found driving in a dangerous manner were also found whose licenses are suspended by RTO. According to officials, 100 licenses have been suspended for driving in a dangerous manner while 67 licenses have been suspended for over-speeding and 64 licenses have been suspended for drunk driving.

The RTO suspends the driving license of such violators for the period of three months and anyone found driving the vehicle during these three months is fined Rs 10,000. The traffic officials have penalised a total of 99,880 violators for various traffic rules violations in the city between January and August this year and a fine of Rs 44 Crore has been recovered from them.
