Summer Heat Slows Vegetable Supply in Pune, Prices Rise for Select Items

Market Yard, 21st April 2025: The scorching summer heat has led to a decline in the supply of fruits and vegetables at Pune’s wholesale markets, triggering price hikes for items such as cucumber, cauliflower, capsicum, carrot, and flat beans.
According to senior trader Vilas Bhujbal, around 90 truckloads of vegetables arrived at the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard on Sunday (April 20), with major consignments coming from Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan. Despite these arrivals, overall supply levels have dipped compared to the previous week.
Vegetable Arrivals from Pune Division
From the Pune division alone, the arrivals included:
500–600 sacks of cluster beans
6–7 tempos of okra
3–4 tempos of guar
8,000–10,000 crates of tomatoes
4–5 tempos of green chilies
8–10 tempos of capsicum
7–8 tempos of cucumber
5–6 tempos of cabbage
8–10 tempos of cauliflower
10–12 tempos of red pumpkin
70–80 trucks of onions
30–35 trucks of potatoes from Indore, Agra, and other areas
Spike in Coriander and Fenugreek Prices
Prices of coriander and fenugreek leaves have gone up compared to last week, although other leafy vegetables remain relatively stable. On Sunday, the market received approximately:
75,000 bunches of coriander
40,000 bunches of fenugreek
Wholesale prices per 100 bunches of leafy vegetables:
Coriander: ₹800–₹1,500
Fenugreek: ₹1,200–₹2,000
Dill: ₹800–₹1,000
Spring onion: ₹800–₹1,500
Chakwata: ₹500–₹800
Safflower greens: ₹300–₹700
Mint: ₹300–₹500
Ambadi (Roselle): ₹300–₹600
Radish greens: ₹800–₹1,500
Rajgira: ₹400–₹600
Swiss chard: ₹500–₹800
Amaranth: ₹300–₹600
Spinach: ₹800–₹1,200
Fruit Supply and Prices
While prices of watermelon, muskmelon, papaya, pomegranate, orange, sweet lime, and lemon remain stable, sapodilla (chikoo) has seen a price drop due to increased supply.

20–25 tons of pomegranates

1,500–2,000 sacks of lemons
