For World No. 3 Sukant’, the 20-22, 15-21 loss in just 32-minutes, meant that victory still eluded. Having always played second fiddle, Pune-based Sukant slumped to a 0-6 career record to Fredy who ranks four places below hi at No.7.

Describing the game, Sukant said, “I just could not push the encounter over the line when it mattered most. We played out a close game all through but the game slipped,”

Sukant’s two-game loss to Fredy was his second in the six singles encounters they have sparred with the other two coming in Australia (2018) and Denmark (2019). In fact, Fredy for Sukant has always been a spoilsport in the semifinals and finals with 5/6 encounters going against Sukant.

“I learnt a lot on this trip and will be going back to make amends and come back stronger. I was expecting to stretch the distance with an improved position at the World’s but then this was not my day,” Sukant signed off.
