Jaipur, 12th July 2024: A SpiceJet employee was arrested on Thursday following an altercation in which she slapped a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer over a security screening dispute. The airline backed its employee, accusing the CISF officer of sexual misconduct.

Anuradha Rani, a food supervisor with SpiceJet, was entering the airport with other employees through the vehicle gate around 4 am when Assistant Sub Inspector Giriraj Prasad stopped them, citing a lack of valid permission to use the gate. He directed her to undergo screening at the nearby entrance for airline crew.

The CISF reported that no female officers were available at the screening area at that time. Giriraj Prasad called for female staff, but by the time they arrived, a heated exchange had already occurred between him and Rani, culminating in Rani slapping Prasad.

“A case has been registered against her, and she has been arrested,” stated a senior CISF official.

However, SpiceJet issued a statement attributing the incident to misconduct by CISF officer Prasad. Describing the event as unfortunate, SpiceJet Airlines stated, “While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India’s civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including an invitation to meet him after duty hours at his home.”

The airline also announced that they had lodged a complaint seeking immediate legal action regarding the alleged sexual harassment of their employee.
