Social Media Platform X Tests New Dislike Feature for Post Replies
Pune, 12th July 2024: Social media giant X has commenced testing a new feature designed to enhance the ranking of reply posts. This experimental feature introduces a ‘Dislike’ button, symbolized by a ‘Broken Heart’ icon, diverging from the traditional upvote and downvote mechanisms typical on platforms like Reddit. Initially trialed on iOS applications, this feature specifically targets responses, marking a departure from X’s previous uniform voting options tested in 2021.
The rollout follows recent disclosures by X CEO Elon Musk in June, where another feature to hide default-like counts was unveiled. This strategic move is part of X’s ongoing initiative to enrich user interaction and foster more respectful online conversations.
According to TechCrunch, the introduction of the Broken Heart icon alongside X’s familiar heart-shaped ‘Like’ button signifies a departure from conventional downvote icons used on platforms such as Reddit.
