Bhubaneswar, 19th July 2024 – Indian Railways proudly announces the successful facilitation of over 1.5 million passengers to and from Puri during the sacred Rath Yatra festival. Through meticulous planning and innovative strategies, Indian Railways ensured a seamless and comfortable journey for devotees participating in this auspicious event.

Key Highlights of Rath Yatra Arrangements:

Efficient Passenger Movement: Indian Railways efficiently transported 1.5 million passengers, ensuring their safe and comfortable travel throughout the Rath Yatra period.

Pilgrim and Mela Sheds: To accommodate up to 15,000 pilgrims at a time, both temporary and permanent Mela sheds were set up at Puri Railway Station, equipped with essential facilities such as rest areas, toilets, and bathing facilities.

Enhanced Connectivity Across Odisha: Special trains were operated connecting Puri to 25 districts across Odisha, simplifying access for devotees.

AI-driven Dynamic Scheduling: Utilizing AI-based dynamic scheduling systems, Indian Railways promptly deployed additional trains to meet high demand during the festival.

Extensive Operation of Special Trains: Over 315 special trains were scheduled to ensure efficient transportation and accommodate the influx of pilgrims during the Rath Yatra.

Interstate Connectivity: Special trains were deployed connecting Puri to neighboring states including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal, facilitating pilgrim travel to and from these regions.

Measures Implemented During the Festival:

Effective Crowd Management: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were deployed at Puri Railway Station to manage crowds efficiently.

24/7 Control Room: A dedicated control room operated round-the-clock to address passenger concerns and ensure smooth operations.

Comprehensive Announcement Systems: Effective public announcements were made at Puri and other stations under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) jurisdiction.

Enhanced Information Systems: Puri Railway Station was equipped with PA systems, strategically placed enquiry counters, and large video walls displaying real-time train schedules.

Streamlined Ticketing Services: Additional booking counters, ATVMs, and mobile ticket counters were set up. The UTS on Mobile App and ECoR Yatra App provided information related to Rath Yatra facilities.

Safety and Security: Stringent safety measures included CCTV surveillance, deployment of RPF, Government Railway Police (GRP), and sniffer dogs. Fire services were on standby with strategically placed extinguishers.

Medical Facilities: Medical assistance booths with trained staff and ambulance services operated 24/7 at Puri Railway Station to cater to any medical emergencies.

Utilities Management: Uninterrupted power supply and regular water provision were ensured, with contingency plans in place for emergencies.

Hygiene Maintenance: Special emphasis was placed on cleanliness and hygiene at all public utility areas throughout the festival.

Catering and Hospitality: A food plaza at Puri Railway Station, along with additional stalls en route, provided essential amenities such as tea, snacks, water, and meals.

Sanitation Facilities: Adequate toilet and bathroom facilities were available at both permanent and temporary Mela sheds.

Passenger Assistance: Help desks were set up to provide information about train schedules, passenger conveniences, and details regarding Rath Yatra rituals.

Adequate Illumination: Continuous power supply ensured proper lighting and functioning of essential amenities at Puri Railway Station.
