Six Individuals Charged for Performing Namaz at Sarasbaug, Pune

Pune, 12th July 2024: A case has been registered against six individuals for performing Namaz at Sarasbaug in Pune, an incident that occurred on May 5, 2022. Police Constable Sandeep Godase reported the incident at Swargate Police Station, leading to the registration of the case.

Sarasbaug is a well-known location in Pune, famous for its Ganapati Mandir and Garden, which is managed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). In May 2022, the six individuals entered the garden and performed Namaz behind the Ganapati Mandir in an iron-sheet shed.

The act was deemed an illegal assembly, violating an order from the Chief Superintendent of PMC. The case has been filed after it was alleged that the Namaz was performed to create communal discord and offend other communities’ sentiments. Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep is overseeing the further investigation.
