Mumbai, December 10, 2020: In a bid to curb heinous crimes against women and children in Maharashtra, the state cabinet has approved the ‘Shakti Act’ Bill that has provisions for stern punishment, including the death penalty instead of life imprisonment, to the guilty.

“The investigation shall be completed within 15 days from the date of registration of an offence. After a charge-sheet is filed, the trial shall be completed within 30 days in the court. I’m sure that the Bill will get support from MLAs in the coming session and will later be sent for approval of the Central Govt”, said Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

The cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray approved the Bill for the stringent law.
