Search And Rescue Operation Resumes On Second Day At Landslide Incident Site In Raigad

Raigad 21st July 2023: The rescue agencies on Friday resumed search and rescue operation at the landslide incident site in Irsalwadi village of Raigad. The agencies had halted the operation owing to heavy rain and possibility of another landslide on Thursday.

A total of 16 dead bodies have been recovered from the spot while over 93 people have been rescued alive. Many people are still missing and are feared trapped under the debris.

Four teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) having around 100 personnel, 80 Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) personnel and other local agencies along with some volunteers have been deployed to conduct search and rescue at the site. Besides, 170 police personnel of Raigad Police including 3 additional SPs, 4 DySPs and 15 officers have also been deployed at the incident site to manage the crowd.

It may be noted that a landslide incident was reported at around 11:30 pm on Wednesday at Irsalwadi village of Raigad district. A village with a population of 228 people and 48 houses came under a landslide. Over 100 people are still missing and are likely to be trapped under the debris.
