Scorching Heatwave Grips Pune; Temperatures To Hover Around 40–42°C For Next Few Days

Pune, 18th April 2025: Pune and its surrounding areas are currently reeling under intense heat, with weather experts warning that the current sweltering conditions will persist for at least four to five more days. A heatwave-like situation has developed in the region, with maximum temperatures expected to remain between 40°C and 42°C. A slight drop in temperature is anticipated only after 22nd April.
Since the second week of April, the temperature has steadily climbed, resulting in hot days and increasingly warm nights. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported maximum temperatures on Wednesday (16th April) as follows: Shivajinagar recorded 41.2°C, Koregaon Park and Magarpatta 40.8°C, Hadapsar 40.2°C, Chinchwad 39.1°C, and NDA 38.9°C.
On Thursday (17th April), Shivajinagar registered 40.1°C, Koregaon Park and Magarpatta 40.1°C, Pashan 40°C, Hadapsar 39.9°C, Chinchwad 38.6°C, and NDA 38.2°C.
Officials explained that Central Maharashtra is under a heat and humidity alert. The rise in temperatures across northern Indian states has also contributed to the heat in the region due to the inflow of warm winds. “This heatwave-like condition is expected to continue till 22nd April. Post that, an increase in atmospheric moisture may lead to cloudy skies and a marginal dip in temperatures,” they added further.
Residents are advised to take precautions, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
