Pune, 25th September 2024: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning for Pune and nearby areas. As a precautionary measure, all schools and colleges in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have been given a holiday on Thursday, September 26, 2024, according to an official notice from District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase.

The heavy downpour in Pune city and the surrounding district has already caused disruption today. Incidents of trees being uprooted have been reported in various areas, while waterlogging has affected many areas. Traffic jams have also been observed across most parts of the city due to the incessant rainfall.

The IMD has further warned that five districts, including Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Palghar, and Nashik, are likely to experience heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds over the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for Pune district, signaling the likelihood of more intense weather conditions.

Given today’s rain and the forecast for tomorrow, the district administration has announced a holiday for all educational institutions in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, prioritizing public safety amidst the ongoing weather situation.
