Sangvi Police Traps Accused Through Facebook Friend Request

Pimpri Chinchwad, October 21, 2020: A servant who had allegedly stolen ornaments and cash from a bungalow in Kirti Nagar, New Sangvi area, has been nabbed by the Sangvi Police, after sending him a friend request on Facebook from a girl’s profile under the pretext of meeting him.

The accused has been identified as Sandeep Bhagwan Hande (25), a resident of Walhekarwadi. Valuables worth Rs 15 lakh have been recovered from his possession, including 240 grams of gold and cash worth Rs 40,000.

According to police, a few days ago, the accused was working as a caretaker at a woman’s house. However, he left the job within a few days and absconded. Later, the landlady found valuables stolen from the house.

In order to track Hande, the Detection Branch of Sangvi Police station sent him a friend request on Facebook from a girl’s profile. After waiting for a few hours, the accused responded to the request, and the police started chatting with him.

He was invited to meet near Kalpataru Estates in Pimple Gurav. Meanwhile, the police laid a trap and arrested the accused. After a thorough investigation, he confessed to stealing gold jewellery and Rs 40,000 in cash from the house.
