Runway Expansion at Pune Airport Approved, More International Flights to Start Soon

Pune, 9th October 2024: The path for the runway expansion and additional facilities at Pune Airport has been cleared. With the Obstacle Limitation Survey (OLS) report for the runway expansion returning positive, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol announced that, following the completion of some technical aspects, international flights from Pune Airport will soon be operational.

A high-level technical meeting was held at the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation in New Delhi to finalize key technical aspects aimed at facilitating the operation of code ‘E’ aircraft, which will promote international flights from Pune.

During the meeting, several issues were discussed, including land acquisition by the state government, the transfer of land by the Ministry of Defence, runway length, the construction of a new terminal building, and other related matters. The Airports Authority of India was instructed to coordinate closely with the Ministry of Defence and state governments, as well as to conduct additional surveys necessary for this project.

Present at the meeting were Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation Vumlunmang Vualnam, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Deepti Mohil Chawla, Airports Authority of India Chairperson M Suresh, Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Group Captain Manoj Rana, Air Marshal YK Dixit, and Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke.
