· FLO to Organise a Half Marathon in Pune as an initiative for women empowerment

Pune, 30 September : FLO, a women’s wing of FICCI has organised a Half Marathon in Pune to raise funds for charity. This half Marathon will take place on October 4. The first of its kind Marathon is open for all and some of the most significant women runners will be participating in this event.

FICCI FLO is the oldest women’s wing in South Asia and has over 3800 members across India. Since its inception 31 years ago, FLO has been striving for women empowerment and has been taking effective initiatives related to women employment, entrepreneurship and welfare. Pune is also one of its 15 chapters and it is in its first year of operation.

FLO Marathon is organised with a motto of ‘Run to Liberate & Educate Women’. The funds collected through this event will be dedicated to promote FICCI FLOs initiatives. “Along with a charitable cause, we would also like to promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle among Puneites,”explains Varsha Talera, Founding Chairperson, FICCI FLO, Pune Chapter.

The participants of this Half Marathon will have to assemble at the Vibgyor ground, Opp Laxmi lawns, Magarpatta City. This Marathon is divided into 2 categories Open and Veteran (above 45 years) for 21, 10, 5 and 3 Kms. This competition is open for all ages but children below 15 years of age will have to be accompanied by an adult.

This Half Marathon is charging probably the lowest registration fees if compared to any other Half Marathons in India. All the participants will get a Tee shirt and a Goodie Bag. A Runner’s bib will be given to all and those participating for 10 Km and 21Kms will also be given a timing chip.“The event will be followed with an exuberating performance by Live Wire Band. All can dance to the beats and enjoy food on various stalls to spend a great Sunday together,” says Talera.

All the finishers will get Medals and E-certificates. There will be Cash Prizes of worth Rs 2 lakhs for Winners of 10 and 21 Km competition. Currently, over 3500 participants have confirmed.

This also includes event ambassadors like Chitra Nadkarni, who has won several long distance running competitions, Devyani Haldar, a scientist by profession and a runner by passion. Kiran Kanojia, a specially-abled runner who proves to be an inspiration for all. Perveen Batlivala, 60 year old sports enthusiast along with renowned entrepreneur Shilpa Phadke and inspiring long distance runners Sunita Tummalapalli, Michelle Kakade and Taru Mateti.

The FLO Marathon has been supported by Deutche Bank, Master Card, Barclays, Cybage, Sketchers, Gold Mart, and Magarpatta etc.
