Rename Pune As Jijau Nagar: Amol Mitkari Demands
Pune, 13th January 2023: While the issue of changing the name of Ahmednagar is in the news, now there is a demand to change the name of Pune. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Amol Mitkari has demanded that Pune city be renamed Jijau Nagar. However, Hindu Mahasangh has opposed the name. Therefore, there is a possibility of controversy on the issue of renaming the city of Pune.
Mitkari has also made a tweet about the said issue. He tweeted;
“It is the desire of all Shivaji devotees in Maharashtra that the city of Pune should be renamed Jijau Nagar.”
Mitkari has said in his tweet that he will demand the same from the government in the coming session.
The Hindu Mahasangh has opposed the name of Pune city as Jijau Nagar. “Jijau Mata is a tribute to all the Hindus and Shivaji devotees of the country. However, we believe that giving her name to the city of Pune would not be appropriate. Even Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj himself did not change the name of this city. Instead, a memorial of Rajmata Jijau should be set up at the Lal Mahal. This is an old demand of the Hindu Mahasangh,” said Anand Dave, president of the Hindu Mahasangh.
