Pune, 3rd August 2024: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for heavy rains in Pune and Satara districts. The catchment areas of Khadakwasla, Pavana, Mulshi, and Chasakman dams in the Pune district are experiencing heavy rainfall, causing the dams to reach full capacity and necessitating large-scale water discharge.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed the Divisional Commissioner, respective District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners, and senior officials to ensure the safety of residents in villages near the flood line and low-lying areas of Krishna riverside, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and surrounding regions. Pawar has urged citizens to prioritize their safety and cooperate with the authorities.

Currently, the discharge rates are as follows:
– Khadakwasla Dam: 27,016 cusecs
– Mulshi Dam: 27,609 cusecs
– Pavana Dam: 5,000 cusecs
– Chasakman Dam: 8,050 cusecs

The discharge rate may increase if the heavy rains persist. Consequently, caution has been issued to residents along the flood line and in low-lying areas of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
