Record-Breaking Liquor Sales Propel Maharashtra’s Excise Revenue to Rs 21,550 Crore

Pune, 10th May 2023: Liquor sales in Maharashtra have achieved an impressive 23% growth in the span of a year, resulting in a substantial increase in revenue by 25%. As a result, the Maharashtra government has received a staggering amount of Rs 21,550 crore as excise duty.

According to the latest data from the excise department, the state has experienced the highest annual increase in liquor sales in several years, despite the implementation of price hikes. Senior officials have attributed this remarkable growth to various factors contributing to the thriving liquor market.

The Nagpur, Aurangabad, and Kolhapur divisions have emerged as the frontrunners, surpassing the Mumbai-Thane, Pune, and Nashik divisions in terms of revenue growth. Nagpur division witnessed an impressive 42.9% increase in revenue, while Aurangabad and Kolhapur recorded growth rates of 29.7% and 28.5%, respectively. On the other hand, the Mumbai-Thane, Pune, and Nashik divisions have also experienced a commendable growth of around 23% in excise revenue.
