Pune, 18th June 2023:

In response to recent media reports suggesting the disappearance of printed banknotes, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has categorically refuted these claims. The central bank has clarified that such reports stem from a misinterpretation of data obtained through the Right to Information Act, 2005, from the banknote printing presses.

RBI emphasizes that all banknotes dispatched from the printing presses to the central bank are meticulously accounted for. It assures the public that robust systems are in place to ensure a comprehensive reconciliation process for banknotes produced, stored, and distributed. These systems include strict protocols to monitor the entire lifecycle of banknotes, from their production to their delivery.

To quell any concerns, the RBI urges citizens to rely solely on information officially published by the central bank regarding such matters. By doing so, the public can stay well-informed and avoid falling prey to erroneous claims and misinformation.
