Mumbai, 27th August 2024: The Duleep Trophy 2024 is set to kick off on September 5, featuring some of India’s top cricketing talent. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a significant change on August 24: Ravindra Jadeja has been removed from the competition. Jadeja was initially included in Team B, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran.

The BCCI has not provided a specific reason for Jadeja’s exclusion, but media reports indicate that it might be a measure to manage his workload ahead of the two-Test series against Bangladesh starting September 19. No replacement has been named for Jadeja at this time.

Jadeja last played for India in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024, after which he retired from T20 internationals. He was also absent from the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, and with the emergence of Axar Patel, Jadeja may not be considered for white-ball cricket for the foreseeable future.

Additional squad updates for the Duleep Trophy include Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik being ruled out due to illness. Navdeep Saini will replace Siraj in Team B, while Gaurav Yadav will substitute for Umran in Team C.
