Mumbai, 26 May 2021: Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda received a lot of backlash on social media for his making a sexist and casteist “Joke” on Mayawati, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. In a video that surfaced online, Hooda is making a “dirty joke”.

The “joke” starts with Mayawati walking down a street with twins (aged a few years apart). A stranger asks her about the age gap of kids and after finding out that they are born a few years apart; the reply of the stranger becomes the ‘punch line’ – “Someone has been there twice?”.

Netizens did not find this “joke” funny as much as the audience that cheers the actor on in the video. People on social media questioned if such statements could be made on Savarna men or politicians so casually? Netizens also pointed out that Mayawati being a Dalit woman plays a role in the confidence with which Randeep could make the “joke” in a public setting.
