Purandar, 30th September 2024: Maharashtra’s Minister of Industries, Uday Samant, has announced a major update regarding the new airport to be built in the Purandar area of Pune District. He stated that land acquisition for the project will begin soon through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). A meeting regarding this land acquisition between Minister Uday Samant and the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Cooperation, and Member of Parliament from Pune, Murlidhar Mohol, is scheduled to take place.

Previously, land acquisition for the airport was halted due to local opposition. However, recent reports indicate that this issue is likely to be resolved, and work on the airport is expected to begin in the next few months. Industry Minister Uday Samant, who recently visited Pune to inaugurate various development projects, stated, “For the development of Maharashtra and the people of Pune, the Purandar Airport Project is very important. Therefore, I will hold a meeting with Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol in the next three to four days regarding the land acquisition process. We will finalize the project model within the next eight days, after which we will begin the land acquisition work.”

The new airport will be constructed in Purandar, Pune, covering an area of 2,832 hectares. The site selected for the airport has received all necessary approvals from the Ministry of Defence. Rajewadi Railway Station, located half an hour from the airport site, is the nearest railway station. This airport will significantly contribute to the development of Pune city, making travel more convenient for both residents and visitors.

The challenge of land acquisition and local opposition had previously hampered the project’s progress. However, work on the airport is expected to begin in 2024, and the construction is projected to be completed within three to four years.
