Camp, 6th April 2023: Ramadan, also known as Ramzan, is a significant and holy month for Muslim communities around the world. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn till dusk, refraining from even drinking water. The fast is broken at dusk with some dates and other fruits, followed by dinner after Maghrib prayers.

Iftar (fast-breaking meal) stalls are a significant attraction during this holy month in many parts of the world, including the Camp, Mominpura, and Kausarbaug locality of Kondhwa in Pune. The nights are the ideal time to visit the food stalls, where one can find a variety of non-veg and sweet dishes.

The Camp area is renowned for its Iftar stalls, which can be seen on Sachapir Street, Hazrat Babajaan Dargah area, and Centre Street. The stalls sell a variety of dishes such as Sutarfeni, dates, fruits, juices, Seekh Kebabs, and samosas. Imdadi Hotel at Ashirwad Hall is another favorite spot for foodies in Camp.

Apart from food, stalls selling Heena, jewelry, shoes, clothes, toys, crockeries, etc., are also set up in the area. Sakhi Faluda, located within near Babajaan Dargah, sells a variety of faluda, such as Kulfi Oyala Faluda, Icecream Faluda, and Rabdi Faluda, along with kulfis like Mango and Kesar Pista Kulfi. Many citizens visit this spot with their families and friends.

Shalimar Food Banquet on Sachapir Street is a non-veg lover’s paradise, offering Mughlai, Chinese, and Indian cuisine. According to Arsheen Shaikh, Lucknowi Biryani is the restaurant’s best-selling dish, and people love it. Starters are the most preferred items during Ramadan, and the restaurant arranges a different menu for different days. Chicken Cheese Samosa, Malai Seekh, Raan, and Lucknowi Biryani are the famous selling starters of Shalimar.

The stall owners mentioned that people from all over the state come to visit these stalls during the one-month-long festival. These places showcase the richness of flavors, variety of dishes, and unity and respect for religions.

The holy month of Ramadan brings people together to celebrate and enjoy the diverse cuisines of their culture. Pune’s Camp and Kondhwa areas, with its variety of Iftar stalls, is an excellent example of how food brings people together, breaking boundaries and promoting unity.
