Punekar News Mourns the Loss of Bureau Chief Sumit Kumar Singh at Age 35

Pune, 14th August 2024: Sumit Kumar Singh (35), Bureau Chief of Pune’s leading news portal, Punekar News, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, after battling acute necrotizing pancreatitis. He had been undergoing treatment at Ruby Hall Clinic.

Sumit breathed his last on Tuesday morning, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and excellence in journalism. His cremation was held at Bopkhel Shamshan Ghat in the evening, attended by a large gathering of friends, relatives, and fellow journalists. Sumit is survived by his parents, elder brother, wife, and a two-year-old daughter. His wife works with a private company. His father is an ex-serviceman from the Army.

For the last 10 years, Sumit was a vibrant and dedicated journalist at Punekar News, covering a wide range of topics including crime, civic issues, and transport services. Known for his relentless energy and commitment to the truth, Sumit developed a reputation as a journalist who could be relied upon for his insightful and accurate reporting.

Originally from Paina village in the Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, Sumit moved to Pune to pursue his education. He completed his BBA from Balaji College, Pune, before briefly working with a KPO firm. His passion for journalism led him to join Punekar News, a portal co-founded by his elder brother Amit Singh and friend Mubarak Ansari.

“Sumit had developed a strong network within the police department, customs, railways, and airport. He also reported extensively on civic issues,” said Mubarak Ansari, Managing Editor of Punekar News. “He had become an integral part of many residents’ associations across the city.”

Reflecting on their deep bond, Mubarak added, “Sumit was my close friend for the last 18 years. He was a thorough gentleman, respected by officials and loved by people for his helping nature. I never imagined that my journey in journalism would include writing an obituary for him.”

Bureaucrats, police officers, and the city’s prominent figures have expressed their condolences.
