Puneites get the opportunity to witness ‘Sanchari’ – The festival of films on dance

Pune 30th January 2018: The weekend offers a great opportunity for the dance and film lovers to indulge and get enlightened with ‘Sanchari’, A ‘films on dance’ festival. The festival is jointly organised by Loud Applause Dance Magazine and Kalavardhini Charitable Trust. The festival will showcase rare films and documentaries about dancers and their different dance styles. The festival takes place between February 3rd and 4th at National Film Archives of India, Prabhat road,Pune between 11am to 6pm

The festival is curated, analysed and conducted by Ashish Mohan Khokar, author, editor and dance critique. The objective behind organizing such festival is to create awareness among young dancers about different different aspects of dance film making, the need for documentation.

The festival comprises of discussion sessions with Ashish Khokar where he will be throwing light on ‘how’ and ‘what’ to watch in these films which further enhance in broadening horizon of the young and passionate dancers. The audience will get in-depth knowledge on what to focus while watching dance films, how to ‘film’ dance and how ‘Not’ to present dance in films. The films screened are from NFAI, Film Divison and Mohan Khokar Archives which makes it a complete blend of rare and rich content.

The collaboration of two such dance dedicated ventures is bound to create something exclusive. Loud Applause e-magazine now in its 5th year, has brought out articles, interviews, write-ups on/by noted personalities in the dance fraternity. It has a spectrum of relevant dance related topics which are useful in today’s age, truly holding to its aim of enriching every dancer-s journey. Where Kalvardhini has been instrumental in organizing enriched dance programs and workshops, and this festival is a part of their 30th year celebration. The cherry on top being getting to interact and listen to the words of wisdom by Ashish Khokar. Neha Muthiyan, who runs Loud Applause Dance Magazine and is a Kathak Dancer and Arundhati patwardhan ,leading Bharatnatyam dancer think that it is a great opportunity for young dancers.The festival is open for all.

The films that audience will get an opportunity to witness are Lasya Kavya, Director, Sankalp Meshram, Kapila-Directed by Sanju Surendran , Dancin’ Films; Filmin Dance, Compiled by Ashish Khokar, Marattam, Director, G. Aravindan.
