Pune: Youth Injured in Uruli Kanchan After Gatari Amavasya Celebration Turns Violent
Uruli Kanchan, 5th August 2024: Gatari Amavasya is seen as the ‘last day’ to indulge in non-vegetarian food and alcoholic drinks before the holy month of Shravan begins. Many people in Maharashtra take this opportunity to enjoy these foods, though some youths tend to overindulge. In one such case, a youth was attacked with a sharp weapon after attending a Gatari party at a restaurant in Uruli Kanchan. This incident occurred at 11:30 PM yesterday, and a case has been registered at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station.
A case has been registered against Deepak Jadhav (24), Vijay Jadhav (18), and Sunny Pawar (24), all residents of Theur. Sohail Isaq Shaikh (20), also a resident of Theur, has complained to the Loni Kalbhor Police Station.
According to police reports, Shaikh and his friends—Suraj Shaikh, Praveen Chopate, Vijay Jadhav, Sunny Pawar, and Deepak Jadhav—along with Vinayak Gadhawe, had gone to a hotel on Theur Naygaon Road in Uruli Kanchan for dinner to celebrate Gatari Amavasya. After the meal, a disagreement arose between Shaikh and the accused, leading to a physical altercation and verbal insults. During the fight, Sunny Pawar drew a sharp weapon and struck Shaikh on the head, causing injury. Shaikh is receiving treatment at a private hospital, where he also registered the case against the three suspects. The Loni Kalbhor Police are investigating the matter further.
Trio Smashes Up Wine Shop in Camp
Similarly, on Sunday night, during the Gatari Amavasya celebrations, three young men vandalized the New York Wine Shop in Kalpataru Society, Camp, using iron rods. The attackers arrived around 9 PM, causing chaos by smashing glassware and creating a disturbance before fleeing the scene. Anand Zaware reported the incident to the Lashkar Police Station. Senior Police Inspector Girish Dighavkar confirmed the extensive damage but stated that the motive remains unclear. The Lashkar Police are actively investigating the case and searching for the suspects.
