Pimpri, 5th September 2024: An accident occurred on Thursday at Kundmala in Indori, Maval Taluka, where a young man drowned in the Indrayani River after slipping while taking a selfie. The incident also left a young woman missing.

The deceased has been identified as Rohan Dnyaneshwar Thombre, a 22-year-old resident of Chinchwadgaon. The missing girl is Shreya Suresh Gawde, a 17-year-old student, also from Chinchwadgaon.

According to Senior Police Inspector Ranjit Jadhav of the Talegaon MIDC Police Station, Rohan worked for a private company, while Shreya was a student in the 11th grade. On Thursday morning, a group of eight friends, including Rohan and Shreya, visited Kundmala for a picnic. The group, which consisted of six boys and two girls, stopped near the Devi temple by the river.

While taking a selfie by the riverbank, Rohan and Shreya lost their balance and fell into the river. Despite immediate efforts by the other friends to rescue them and alert locals, the current swept them away.

The incident was reported to the Talegaon-MIDC Police, who, along with wildlife guards and the Apada Mitra rescue team, conducted an extensive search operation throughout the day. Rohan’s body was recovered around 4:30 PM, but the search for Shreya continued into the evening.

Due to the onset of darkness, the search operation was temporarily suspended and will resume on Friday morning.
