Yerwada, 11th December 2023: The completion of works on the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi route in the Pune Metro project is nearing, with Yerwada Metro Station playing a pivotal role in the densely populated area. The strategic location on the Pune-Ahmednagar National Highway, known for heavy traffic, prompted collaborative planning between Pune Metro and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to optimize the station’s entrances and exits, easing traffic congestion.

Yerwada Metro Station’s design incorporates lifts, escalators, and pedestrian stairs on both sides to manage potential rushes efficiently and enhance passenger services upon opening. The collaborative effort aims to provide a seamless and convenient experience for the thousands of residents in the vicinity.

Recognizing the proximity of Pune Airport, approximately 4.8 km away, the plan includes a feeder bus service from Yerwada Metro Station to the airport, operated in collaboration with PMPML. Dedicated bus stops and bays at the airport facilitate swift transfers for passengers disembarking from the metro.

To ensure smooth traffic flow on the highway, a designated stop for PMPML and MSRTC buses near the municipal hall (beside the ward office) has been arranged. This strategic placement minimizes disruption to highway traffic when buses make stops.

Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Mahametro, expressed the uniqueness of the Yerwada station layout, a result of collaborative planning between Pune Metro and Pune Municipal Corporation. The integrated approach not only addresses road congestion but also enhances multi-modal connectivity, providing passengers at Yerwada station with improved access to the airport and expedited journeys.
