Pune: Yerwada Jail Inmates Attack Each Other, Police Register Case Against Six

Yerwada, 2nd April 2023: A violent clash between two groups of prisoners in Yerwada Central Jail has resulted in two inmates being seriously injured. The brawl took place on 31st March near Barrack No.2. According to reports, the fight broke out due to prior enmity between the groups.

 

The injured prisoners, Hariram Ganesh Panchal and Musa Abu Sheikh, were immediately taken to the prison hospital for treatment. The police have registered a case against six undertrial prisoners, including Arjun Bajirao Waghmode, Omkar Narayan Gadekar, Rohan Ramoji Shinde, Sahil Laxman Mhetre, Rishikesh Hanumant Gadkar, and Mangesh Shakeel Syed.

 

Arjun Waghmode, Omkar Gadekar, and the other accused were arrested last year in a fight between two groups in Alandi and were later sent to Yerwada Jail as undertrial prisoners. The accused had a brawl with the two injured prisoners, and in the heat of the moment, they beat them mercilessly with a plastic bucket.

 

Jail constable Eknath Gandhale filed a complaint in this regard, and the Yerwada police are conducting further investigations.
