Pune: Year-Long Worry Over Agriculture And Drinking Water Solved, Water Storage At 99% In All Dams

Pune, 16th August 2022: Due to the ongoing rains in the area of ​​all the four dams of the Khadakwasla Dam Chain Project, which supplies water to the city, satisfactory water storage has accumulated in all the dams. Therefore, the year-long worry about agriculture and drinking water has been solved. Currently, the water storage in all four dams has reached 99 per cent.

Till Tuesday (August 16) morning, water was released from Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river at the rate of 13 thousand 981 cusecs. Khadkawasala, Panshet and Varasgaon dams are 100 per cent full and Temghar dam is 93 per cent full. All four dams have stored 28.92 billion TMC of water.

 

Till Tuesday morning, in the Temghar dam area, 70 mm of rain was recorded, 41mm ran was recorded at Varasgaon and Panshet dam area, while Khadakwasla dam area recorded only 6 mm of rain. Reportedly, 18 thousand 491 cusecs of water were being released in the Mutha river since 9.00 pm on Monday.

“Discharge from Varasgaon and Panshet dams was reduced from Tuesday morning. Water is being released at the rate of 2985 cusecs from Varasgaon dam and 4480 cusecs from Panshet dam. Therefore, 13 thousand 981 cusecs of water is being released from Khadakwasla Dam since 9.00 am,” said Y.S. Bhandalkar, Assistant Engineer of Khadakvasla Dam Chain Project. He further said that according to the amount of rain in the area of ​​the dams, the release of water will be increased or reduced.

 

Meanwhile, the Temghar dam is 93 per cent full and is also likely to be filled to its full capacity soon. Therefore, the Water Resources Department said that enough water has been accumulated in the dams for drinking purposes and agriculture in the rural areas for the next year.
