Pune: Worker Dies from Injuries After Brutal Beating Over Accidental Mud Splash

Yerwada, 3rd July 2024: Dnyaneshwar Nivritti Waghmare (44) succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal assault by four men. The incident occurred on June 19, when Waghmare was repairing a drain chamber near Kasturba Society, Vishrantwadi, and mud accidentally splashed onto the accused as they passed by.

Contractor Bhagwan Sahdev Asbe (47), a resident of Rawet, Pune, filed a complaint following Waghmare’s death on Tuesday night. The Yerwada Police Station has registered a case against four individuals, including a minor.

Accused Raj Pardeshi of Chakan, and Pranav Antre of Dighi have been arrested, while the minor has been detained. Police are currently searching for the fourth accused, Chaitanya Salve, who is absconding, informed Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke, in-charge of Yerwada police station.

According to the Yerwada Police, the incident took place around 5 PM on June 19 when Waghmare was working in the drain. Mud splashed on Pardeshi and his friends as they passed by, leading to an altercation. The four individuals then attacked Waghmare, hitting him on the face and head with stones.

Local citizens alerted the police who arrived at the spot and admitted seriously injured Waghmare to a hospital for treatment. Pardeshi and Antre were arrested shortly after the incident, and the minor involved was detained. Both Pardeshi and Antre have been remanded to judicial custody, while the minor has been released on bail.

Despite medical efforts, Waghmare succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night at Sassoon Hospital. Following his death, the police have added murder charges against the accused persons, Inspector Shelke added.
