Pune: Woman Software Engineer Assaulted By Tinder Match For Rejecting Marriage Proposal
Hinjawadi, 3rd April 2023: A young software engineer had a harrowing experience after befriending a youth on the Tinder dating app. The romantic liaison turned into a nightmare when the accused, identified as Tejas Kiran Sudhankar, became abusive and violent after the woman rejected his marriage proposal.
The accused confined the victim to his home, held her family hostage at knifepoint, and demanded extortion from them. He also brutally assaulted her, causing severe head injuries and damaging her eye.
The victim, a native of Bihar who had been living in Pune since 2017, filed a complaint at the Hinjawadi Police Station under the Pimpri Chinchwad police. An FIR has been registered against the accused.
According to Police Sub-Inspector Mahendra Gadve, the accused and the victim met on Tinder in October 2022 and began a romantic relationship. In January, the victim suspected that Tejas was having an affair with another girl, leading to a lovers’ spat. The victim rejected Tejas’ marriage proposal, which allegedly enraged him and led to the violent incident.
After the assault, Tejas allegedly held the victim’s family hostage and threatened to kill her if they did not pay him extortion. He also confined her to his home.
The accused has been charged with multiple offences, including confinement, assault causing grievous harm, and extortion. The police have launched an investigation and are taking necessary action to ensure justice for the victim.
