Pune: Woman Repulsed Leopard’s Attack; Villagers Demand Safety Measures

Manchar, 5th September 2022: A leopard attacked a woman who had gone to release a cow tied outside her house in Adarshgaon Kurwandi in Ambegaon taluka of Pune distric, Maharashtra. However, she repelled the attack of the leopard by putting up a strong resistance.

Kalabai Devidas Mate (41) is the name of the woman. During the attack, Kalabai got injured and received stitches on her head. She is undergoing treatment at Manchar Sub-District Hospital.

 

There is a forest near Mate’s house. She went to release the cow at around 7 pm on Sunday (September 4). A leopard who was already sitting near her house attacked her.

 

In the attack, she got a big injury on her head. As she screamed, the leopard ran away. The family admitted her to a rural hospital in Ghodegaon for primary treatment. She was treated and brought home.

Due to the headache, she was again admitted to Sub-District Hospital at Manchar for further treatment. Dr Shweta Gorane and Dr Sachin Kamble informed that there is a deep wound on the head and six stitches.

 

Forest Range Officer P S Raundhal, Forester S L Gaikwad, Forest Guard S B Waje, Forest Guard A S Hole, and R C Shingade visited the spot and conducted search for the leopard.

 

On this occasion, Sarpanch Manisha Totre, Jitendra Maluje, Upasarpanch Jitendra Totre, Ravindra Totre, Kailas Totre, Gram Panchayat members Dagadu Mate, Bandu Mate, Ramdas Totre, Ankush Totre, Bhagwan Chavan, Sunil Totre and other villagers met the forest officials and discussed the increasing leopard attacks.

 

A leopard attacked Ankush Tulshiram Totre’s pet dog in Adarshgaon Kurwandi five days ago. But, luckily the dog was saved. Leopard nuisance is increasing in the area. Many pet dogs have been killed by leopards. An atmosphere of fear has spread among the citizens.

 

Sarpanch Manisha Totre demanded that the Forest Department should install a cage to imprison the leopard.
