Pune, 5th September 2024: A woman has filed a complaint at Swargate Police Station, and a case has been registered against her Non-Resident Indian (NRI) husband, mother-in-law, and four others for physically and mentally torturing her, as well as financial deprivation and domestic violence. The accused are identified as Chandrasekhar Babanrao Mahale, Babanrao Tatya Mahale, Hemlata Babanrao Mahale (all currently residing in Arizona, USA), and Namdeo Pawar (a resident of Swargate).

According to the police, the complainant married the accused in 2005. She was a management consultant in India, and after marriage, she lived in America for some time, where her husband, Chandrasekhar, worked as an IT engineer. In 2006, they purchased a flat in Salisbury Park, Pune. After February 2006, she moved to America. A year later, her husband sent her back to Pune for housework, which damaged her career. She alleges that she was subjected to physical and mental torture.

A case was registered against her husband at Rajarampuri Police Station in Kolhapur on 28th December 2017. The husband took their two daughters to America for schooling and did not allow the complainant to meet them. He was also threatened with dire consequences if she did not withdraw the complaint. Furthermore, her educational documents and gold ornaments were taken and not returned.

On 25th June 2024, she visited a bank in Wakadewadi to obtain house documents. During this visit, her husband, father-in-law, and Namdev Pawar attempted to intimidate her by saying, “How are you still alive?” Later, they barged into a house in Salisbury Park and verbally abused her with obscene language. The victim stated in her complaint that she tried to remove them from the house by physically confronting them.

The Pune Police have taken notice of this case, which involves harassment, cheating, and the kidnapping of minor girls. In her complaint, the woman claimed that the accused deliberately violated international law and fundamental human rights. She has appealed to the Government of India for justice in this matter.
